"An excellent science education embodies 21st century skills and postsecondary and workforce readiness by teaching students critical skills and thought processes to meet the challenges of today’s world"(Colorado Department of Education, 2009, p.2).

In order for students to be successful after education, they need to be prepared for not only the workforce, but life in general. Therefore, students need to perform at high levels, have critical thinking and reasoning skills and be able to evaluate information. Students must be able to process this information, understand what they have learned and apply these results to everyday life.
While students are engaged in classroom activities, whether it is a class or personal projects, laboratory work, students will work in groups, practice collaboration in a safe environment and exercise determination.(Colorado Department of Education, 2009).

Science is both a body of knowledge that represents the current understanding of natural systems, and the process whereby that body of knowledge has been established and is continually extended, refined, and revised. Because science is both the knowledge of the natural world and the processes that have established this knowledge, science education must address both of these aspects. - See more at: http://www.cde.state.co.us/coscience/ScienceIntro.asp#sthash.JQzQaRQN.dpuf
